Discover the Vélodyssée, the French section of EuroVelo 1 linking Roscoff in Brittany to Hendaye in the Basque Country. With over 1,200 km of signposted itineraries, this cycling route, voted “Itinéraire Vélo 2017”, is the most popular in France. From Lège-Cap-Ferret to the Dune du Pilat, the Vélodyssée crosses the Bassin d’Arcachon, renowned for its rich and diverse landscapes. Accessible to all, even children, the route takes in land, sea, sand and forest.
Looking for a campsite in Gironde on the Vélodyssée? Our family campsite, La Canadienne, welcomes you on the shores of the Bay of Arcachon, between Cap Ferret and Arcachon. We offer accommodation in mobile homes for 2 to 6 people, as well as pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes in the heart of an oak forest… Cycling with the family has never been so relaxing!
Explore Arès and the Bay of Arcachon by bike
Over 100 km of cycle paths around the Bassin d’Arcachon await you at the campsite gate. Cycling in the Gironde around the campsite on the Bassin d’Arcachon and Arès is a real treat! Swap your car for a classic or electric bike and take advantage of the welcoming nature of the Arcachon Basin for picnics and activities along the way!
There are many routes to choose from, but we recommend the one that starts at the campsite and takes you to Andernos-les-Bains and its charming market town. You’ll then pass through some superb unspoilt natural areas and be able to admire splendid panoramic views.
Cycling routes
Hop on your bike and ride from Lège-Cap Ferret to Arès and its nature reserve, following the old railway line. In Andernos-les-Bains, enjoy the large jetty, the oyster port, the beaches and the lively town center. Heritage lovers will appreciate the St-Eloi church, the Gallo-Roman remains and the Maison Louis David.
Between Lanton and Biganos, the trail passes through the pine forest of the Landes de Gascogne. Take a detour to the port of Audenge, famous for its seawater swimming pool, and the Domaines de Certes-Graveyron, a remarkable ornithological site. Continue on to Biganos and admire the colorful fishermen’s huts in the port.
Continue on to Le Teich, where you can observe wild birds at the Parc Ornithologique du Teich. Then head for Gujan-Mestras. End your journey in La Teste-de-Buch, famous for its cabanes tchanquées, beaches, Lac de Cazaux and Dune du Pilat.
